Hawaiian cottage cheese bowls are a fun, protein-packed meal prep with tropical vibes. It’s a great option when you need a healthy lunch or dinner that can be eaten cold.

A clear glass bowl is filled with cottage cheese, ham chunks, pineapple chunks, sliced green onions, and sliced jalapenos.

In the mood for something different when it comes to your weekly meal prep? Try this Hawaiian cottage cheese bowl that combines creamy, tangy cottage cheese with salty, savory ham, and sweet, acidic pineapple. It’s topped off with a few jalapeno slices for the perfect kick of heat.

I like to have it with some of Primal’s Hawaiian BBQ sauce on the side. It is low in sugar, but contains no artificial sweeteners. It brings a lot of sweet and tangy flavor that really helps bring the whole bowl together!

It makes a great lunch or dinner meal prep and since it’s packed with protein from the cottage cheese and ham, it will help you reach your daily macros goal while keeping you full and satisfied.

If you’re looking for more ways to use cottage cheese in your meal prep, try my viral cottage cheese taco bowls or these Greek cottage cheese bowls that have become my new lunch obsession.

Ingredients

A bottle of Hawaiian BBQ sauce, a container of cottage cheese, a ham steak, 2 jalapenos, and a pineapple.

  • Cottage cheese – I recommend using full-fat cottage cheese. It’ll give your bowl that rich, indulgent texture, which pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the pineapple and the smokiness of the ham.
  • Ham – I recommend getting a ham steak and chopping it up. Niman Ranch is my preferred brand.
  • Pineapple – Fresh pineapple is ideal, though canned can be substituted in a pinch.
  • Jalapenos – Fresh jalapenos bring just the right amount of heat.
  • Green onions – You can leave these out if you’d prefer, but I think they add a pleasant mild onion flavor.
  • Hawaiian BBQ sauce – I use Primal brand because it is low in calories and sugar.

Tips

  1. Pack the Sauce on the Side. Keep the Primal’s Hawaiian BBQ sauce on the side until you’re ready to eat. This helps prevent your bowl from getting soggy during the week.

  2. Customizable to Your Taste. Not a fan of jalapeños? Swap them out for red bell peppers or cucumbers. Don’t like ham? Try chicken or tofu instead. The flavor possibilities are endless!

  3. Grill Your Pineapple. For an even more intense tropical flavor, throw your pineapple slices on the grill before adding them to the bowl. This adds a smoky caramelization that takes this meal from good to “wow.”

Three single-serve glass bowls each filled with cottage cheese, ham chunks, pineapple chunks, sliced green onion, sliced jalapenos, and a 1 oz container of bbq sauce.
