When I’m on a low-carb high-protein diet hard boiled eggs are my savior.
It’s easy to prep a bunch of them on Sunday and have them available throughout the week for a quick healthy meal or snack.
The easiest way I have found to make and meal prep hard boiled eggs is by using the Instant Pot. It’s so quick & easy and they are a breeze to peel!
How To Make Hard Boiled Eggs In Instant Pot
Making hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot is as easy as adding the eggs and some water, then sealing the lid and setting the timer.
I like to make mine by adding the rack that comes with the IP to the bottom and placing the eggs on top. The water goes underneath and will create steam to pressure cook them.
Can you make hard boiled eggs in Instant Pot without rack?
Yes, you can make hard boiled eggs in the IP without the rack. Simply add the water to the pot, then stack the eggs on top of each other.
How many hard-boiled eggs can you make in the Instant Pot?
You can put as many hard-boiled eggs as you can fit in your Instant Pot, which if you’re using a 6 quart is around 6 dozen! If you’re doing some serious meal prepping that could come in handy! I usually prep 12-18 at a time to have them available throughout the week.
What is the 555 method for Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs?
The 5-5-5 method is probably the most common way to make hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot. It means to cook it under pressure for 5 minutes, natural release for 5 minutes, then place in an ice water bath for 5 minutes.
Whether or not the 5-5-5 method works for you depends on a few things: the size of your eggs, how cold they are, your altitude, and how “done” you prefer your hard boiled eggs.
I actually do my eggs doing 4-4-5 (4 minutes high pressure, 4 minute natural release, and 5 minutes in an ice bath). I have found at 5-5-5 my yolks are a little overdone and develop the dreaded gray ring around the outside.

Ingredients
Large Eggs
1 Cup Water
Instructions
Place the trivet that came with your Instant Pot in the bottom of the stainless steel pot. Arrange eggs on top of the trivet. If you have more than will fit in one layer, you can start stacking them on top of each other.
Place lid on Instant Pot and seal shut. Ensure that that knob is set to “sealing”. Cook eggs on high pressure for 4 or 5 minutes, depending on how done you want your yolks (4 minutes is perfect for me).
Allow Instant Pot to natural release for 5 minutes, then turn knob to “venting” and release the rest of the pressure. When pin drops it is safe to open Instant Pot. Remove the eggs in immediately place in an ice water bath for 5 minutes.
Drain and store hard boiled eggs in the fridge. Peel before eating.
